Community Care: Steps to Respond to an Overdose

Download your resource card here!

What We Believe

LGBTQIA+ people have always been at the heart of harm reduction. From ACT UP to ballroom culture, from chosen family to mutual aid, our communities have created powerful networks of care, resistance, and survival in the face of systemic violence, stigma, and neglect. Harm reduction is, and always has been, about love, autonomy, and showing up for one another in our community.

This page is just one piece of that work. In collaboration with Kochina Rude, a drag artist, educator, and harm reductionist, we’re building space for joy, safety, healing, and access. Together, we’re expanding pathways to lifesaving supplies, affirming education, and deep community connection for everyrnmember of the LGBTQIA+ family.

Safer Use Tips for Party Settings

Listen up, Fabulous Fam! Here’s how to keep your sparkle while you party safe:

Test your stuff before you dive in. No guessing games, know what you’re putting in your body.

Start small, don’t go all in right away. Go low, go slow isn’t just a saying, it’s how you keep control.

Mixing drugs? Be smart about it. Especially alcohol and benzos, that combo can mess you up quickly.

Hydrate, but don’t chug like it’s a race. Keep water flowing, but don’t overdo it or you’ll pay the price.

Watch your crew and roll with a sober buddy if you can. Someone clear headed can spot trouble before it gets ugly.

Know what overdose looks like and be ready to act. If someone’s breathing is funny, unresponsive, or way off, get help ASAP, no excuses.

Gender Affirming Care as Harm Reduction

Let’s get one thing "straight".

Gender affirming care saves lives, and every single person in the LGBTQIA+ community deserves access to it.

Whether it’s hormones, surgery, voice training, or just someone who uses your damn pronouns without making it weird, gender affirming care is about living in your truth without apology.
