“Party and Play” / “PnP” / “Chemsex” / “Hi Fun”

"Party and Play" (PnP), also called “chemsex” or “hi fun,” often refers to using stimulants while engaging in sexual activities. In the United States, the term is commonly associated with (but not limited to) consensual meth use among gay men. Other substances may include GHB/G, ketamine, mephedrone, coke, and others.

Learn more about chemsex.

Risks involved can include:

  • Overamping (too much meth or stimulants)
  • GHB overdose or G “blackouts”
  • Unsafe injection practices ("slamming”) For more information about safer injection practices, check out this guide by the National Harm Reduction Coalition: https://harmreduction.org/issues/safer-drug-use/injection-safety-manual/
  • Non-consensual sexual encounters.
  • Dehydration
  • Serotonin syndrome (mixing G and MDMA)

Harm Reduction Practices for PnP can include the following:

  • Test your drugs (fentanyl, MDMA, G)
  • Avoid mixing depressants (G, alcohol, benzos)
  • How can I tell if a person can give consent?
  • Time your G doses (space 2–3 hrs, measure carefully) Learn more tips for dosing G here.
  • Use new needles for injection and avoid sharing supplies
  • Use condoms, lube, and PrEP/PEP if available
  • Stay hydrated, take breaks, and check in with friends

Where to Find Resources & Support

Safer Party & Play Tips When Using Trimix

If you’re using Trimix to support erections during party & play, you deserve to have a good time and stay safe. Mixing injections, long sessions, and substances can increase risks, so here are some practical ways to reduce harm and take care of your body.

Injection Safety (Your Body Deserves Care)

  • Stick to your prescribed dose, more is not better and can lead to emergencies.
  • Switch sides each time you inject to prevent scar tissue and curvature.
  • Avoid visible veins to reduce bruising.
  • Always use a new sterile syringe sharing or reusing increases infection risk.
  • Hold pressure for a few minutes after injecting to prevent bleeding.

If you’re still hard after 4 hours, that’s a medical emergency, go to urgent care or the ER. No shame, just safety.

PnP Realities: What to Watch Out For

PnP often involves substances like meth, GHB/GBL, cocaine, or poppers. These can change how your body feels and responds.

Why this matters:

  • Stimulants can dull pain → you might not notice injury.
  • Dehydration is common → increases strain on your heart and circulation.
  • Poppers and other vasodilators can cause sudden blood pressure drops.
  • You may stay hard longer than is safe.

Try to avoid mixing Trimix with:

  • Viagra, Cialis, or other ED meds (unless your doctor said it’s okay)
  • Heavy alcohol use
  • Poppers + ED meds together (dangerous BP drop)

Heart & Circulation: Don’t Ignore the Signals

Your heart is working harder during sex and substance use.

  • Drink water, seriously, more than you think you need.
  • Take breaks to let your body reset.
  • Pay attention to dizziness, chest tightness, or shortness of breath.

Chest pain or fainting = call for help immediately.

Protect Your Skin & Tissue

Long sessions can be rough on your body.

  • Use plenty of lube to prevent tears.
  • Check yourself for swelling, discoloration, or cold skin.
  • Give your body recovery time between sessions.

Your body isn’t a machine, rest matters.

Infection Prevention (Simple Steps, Big Impact)

  • Clean the injection site with alcohol first.
  • Wash your hands.
  • Don’t inject into irritated or infected skin.
  • Get regular STI testing, it’s part of self-care, not shame.
